Turkey Springs Trail System

Trailforks Link

This is a great cross-country style trail system with 30+ miles of intertwining beginner and intermediate multi-use trails nestled within a ponderosa pine forest.  While well marked, it is easy to become turned around or end up the ATV trails.  So, stop at each intersection and consult a map.

Getting there: The Main trail head is 5.3 miles north on Piedra Road from the intersection of Piedra Road and 160 highway. The trail head parking lot is on the left, immediately after the cattle guard. The Gate 5 trail head is 3.6 miles north on North Pagosa Blvd from the intersection of North Pagosa Blvd and 160 highway. The trail head parking lot is on the West (left) side.

Coyote Hill

Coyote Hill has one intermediate 3.3 mile, multi-use single track loop in ponderosa pine with a couple of great views of the surrounding mountains.  The trail is recommended for intermediate riders.

Getting there: Drive 5.4 miles north of U.S. 160 on Piedra Road (County Road 600). The trail head parking lot is on the right, just after the cattle guard.

Reservoir Trail System
Trailforks Link

Reservoir Hill is a Pagosa Springs town park located in the heart of downtown with trail heads within easy riding distance of a variety of downtown lodging establishments and public parking. Reservoir Hill provides 8+ miles of biking/hiking trails for all levels as well as a minimal use gravel road.  The system is a short and fairly steep ride to the top with cross country style trails surrounding a large meadow at the top with nice views.

Getting there: Take U.S. 160 to downtown Pagosa Springs. Turn south at the Hot Springs Boulevard traffic light and take the second left onto San Juan Street. Look for a public parking area on the left. From the public parking area, it is a short uphill ride to the Spa Trail Head, which provides one point of access to Reservoir Hill.

Dakota Springs Trail System

Trailforks Link

Dakota Springs is connected to Yamaguchi Park by a small single track and is located behind the Pagosa Springs high school in downtown. Dakota Springs provides short sections of biking/hiking trails for all levels.  The system has a bit of cross country style trail, slick rock and flow.  It is a good learning area or warm up before tackling Reservoir Hill.

Getting there: Take U.S. 160 to downtown Pagosa Springs. Turn south at the Hot Springs Boulevard traffic light. Take a right on Trujillo Road and a left onto South 5th Street. Look for a public parking area at Yamaguchi Park on the left. From the public parking area, it is a short single track or road ride to the trail head behind the high school.

Cloman Park

Cloman Park is an Archuleta County park with one 2.2 mile, multi-use, single track figure-8 that winds through ponderosa pines providing a nice view after a short, fairly steep climb.  The lower part of the single track loop is good for beginner riders while the upper section is intermediate.

Getting there: Drive 1.3 miles north on Piedra Road from Highway 160.  Turn right (east – entrance to Steven’s Field airport) on Cloman Blvd for 1.4 miles.  Stay left at the fork in the road which then dead ends at the large parking lot.

Treasure Mountain Trail

Trailforks Link

Treasure Mountain is a super fun but demanding trail rated Difficult with narrow single track and flow-y technical sections, descending 3100 feet over approximately 7 miles in a remote area.

This ride is best done as a shuttle, leaving a car at the East Fork Camp Ground and driving a second car to the summit of Wolf Creek Pass.  The ride starts from the trail behind the CDT informational sign at the top of the pass.  Climb 900 feet up and across the CDT and then down 1.5 miles on the new Treasure Mountain Connector Trail to meet the beginning of Treasure Mountain Trail.  As a shuttle, the ride ends with 5 miles north on East Fork Road back to the first car.
